TyLean: News

Danse Macabre Records - August 5, 2009

Exciting news!

Danse Macabre Records will be re-releasing Between 10 and 2... aimed for 23 October 2009.

Also, toward the end of 2009, there will be the release of a deluxe edition/follow-up of Between 10 and 2 called From 3 to 9, including tracks from Between 10 and 2 as well as new tracks, new photography, new artwork, and a new music video perhaps?

The Unforgivable, the Unforgettable is far from forgotten... Between 10 and 2 just wants to be in the spotlight a little longer. ;)

TyLean is joining Imprint - July 30, 2009

I am quite honoured and excited to tell you that I am the new synth player for Imprint!

Imprint has tour dates scheduled in the UK and Europe... and I can't wait to bring back my tales from the road for all of you to enjoy! (There might even be some new music projects spawned between the lovely Sin D'rella and myself).

Between 10 and 2 First Edition... about to sell out! - July 23, 2009

Well... I have some news that I'm not yet announcing officially... but I will give you a heads up by telling you the following:

There are only 15 copies of Between 10 and 2 left in the CD Baby Warehouse.

More copies of Between 10 and 2 will be printed and pressed... however... there will be significant changes to the album, and it will be considered a second edition.

For those of you who are serious fans and collectors, if you have not already done so, I recommend you buy a copy of the first edition of Between 10 and 2 before they are gone... it could even be considered an investment, as the album may become more valuable in years to come. (I'm thinking Rasputina: Lost & Found, 1st edition, and the fortunate few who possess this album).

Featuring: "Corner of My Eye," "Distractions," "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," and the experimental masterpiece: "Rosalyn."

TYLEAN: Between 10 and 2

You can also buy a copy of When All Else Fails (EP) from CD Baby!

An Interview in Music's Rising Stars Magazine - July 12, 2009

This month's issue Music's Rising Stars Magazine features an interview with Krystina Rene. I was obviously quite talkative and open that day, because it's quite revealing, lol.

Visit Music's Rising Stars to read the interview.... and please take a moment to write a review of the interview.

What can you do to help TyLean? - July 2, 2009

I often hear from friends, fans, family, and random people I meet that they are envious of my career. It would be much quicker and easier to list the number of people who never thought "how cool it would be to make music or be a rock star for a living" than those of us who have. I LOVE what I do, and I do what I can to make the most of it.

Well.... there is a reason why it's a coveted career path that most never aspire to, and most of us who do end up giving up. IT'S HARD WORK! There is songwriting, recording, budgeting, marketing, artwork, website development, networking, planning tours, playing live.... all of these are things I manage myself, and it's what I do from the time I wake up until I go to bed. In fact, as I lay in bed, my mind is considering the possible obstacles and problems that one might encounter while smashing bottles in front of a microphone, doing mental math to decide whether or not the budget will cover the next album, and trying to work out the logistics of travel to get to upcoming performances.

Another thing I hear from friends, fans, family, and random people I meet is: "what can I do to help?" I'm coming on my 11th year in the music business... and I can tell you that there is no sweeter sound than someone asking you if they can help and how!

There are three main ways:

1. Listen to/buy my music.

That's simple enough, as there are lots of places that you can listen to my music online for free, including MySpace, ReverbNation, VampireFreaks, Jango, and even Youtube.
Of course, I have two album available (When All Else Fails and Between 10 and 2), and you can always buy the albums as well... which you can do using either of the following links:

Visit the TyLean Merch Store
CD Baby
2. Tell people about my music.

First, add me to all of your social networking sites:

Facebook LiveJournal MySpace Twitter
Second, promote my music. This could be talking about my music to your friends, and sharing my music with them, placing me in your favourites and adding my music to your profile page, or - if you really want to make it easy for everyone to hear my music - you can place links and tune widgets directly on your profile.

You can join me on ReverbNation by submitting your email address below. Not only will this keep you up-to-date on whats happening in the world of TyLean, but it will give you access to a ton of widgets that you can copy and paste directly into your profile, blogs, and comment posts.

And if you really want to go nuts with this... JOIN THE STREET TEAM! Street Team members are a big part of spreading the word about my music, and they get rewarded with freebies and things not available to most fans. Just tick the box below and submit your email address to become a Street Team member!

3. Come to see me perform live.

If you are in the UK this summer... PLENTY of opportunities to see me perform live. You can help get more people to the shows by printing and posting flyers to promote the events.

Okay... I know what you are thinking... I only have UK dates booked right now, and asking you to fly to London (though tempting) is a bit extreme.

Believe me... I would LOVE to come to you! I need your help to get there though. In order to justify traveling to far away places to perform, I need to know that there are people who are going to come out to the shows.

A great way for me to know this is simply by telling me. The best way to do that is by clicking the link below and joining me on Eventful. Then... not only will I know where to travel and perform, but you will also be the first to know when I book shows there!

I would like to play mainland Europe dates this Autumn, and I am planning on going to Australia in December/January, so if you live in these places, I especially need to hear from you to know what cities to book in!

As always, I am incredibly grateful for your support and always happy to hear from you (including suggestions). I hope to see you on tour soon!

She is doing WHAT with bottles? - June 29, 2009

When I was living in Bristol (England), and the furthest away from reality that I had ever been, I discovered that the landlord was selling the flat, and I had to move. I was furious… not that I had to move… but that the landlord was being very ignorant in his communications.

In a fit of rage, I threw drinking glasses at the wall, which left tiny pieces of glass stuck in the wall and shards that seemed to stretch from one end of the flat to the other. I left the glass lying on the floor for days… well over a week if I remember correctly. I refused to clean it up, because it was the most real thing in my life. There was no doubt that broken glass was all over the carpet, as I walked over it with bare feet repeatedly everyday.

I eventually cleaned up the glass and repaired the pitted walls to a state better than when I moved in. I did write a song though, before I cleaned up the mess, and that song is called “Shards.”

I will be performing “Shards” for the first time at The Star of Bethnal Green on July 15th in London. Re-creationist that I am… I will be smashing bottles and grinding broken glass as a musical implement... while I play keyboard and sing.

It’s either going to be like watching a train wreck or the coolest thing that has ever happened onstage… either way… you shouldn’t miss it!

About to sell out! - June 26, 2009

A few days ago, I made 7 signed copies of When All Else Fails (EP) available for purchase. Why only 7? ... because that's all the more copies that I physically have in my possession. The rest are in another country, on another continent, across the ocean, and tied up in distribution.

With the signed CD... you also get a promotional copy of Between 10 and 2.

I feel compelled to tell you that this is an incredible value for the money, because you are getting two albums for the price of one, as the promotional copy of Between 10 and 2 is the full album, minus the packaging.

The cost is:
£5 + £1 Shipping.

This is the best method to buy both albums if you live in the UK or Europe... cheaper than ordering from CD Baby.

That being said, once they are gone, they are gone, and orders will have to go through CD Baby until I make another journey home, which is unlikely to be for a long, long time.

Sorry.... SOLD OUT!

Please order the album directly through CD Baby.

Shallow - June 19, 2009

I am feeling very shallow, as I look at my own blog - my own posts - my own words, and see repeatedly "links to buy."

This is NOT what it's supposed to be about! I mean, for Christ sake, "Distractions" is a completely anti-consumer, anti-shallow song about how we have lost sight of what is important in life and how finding fault in others is a means to keep us from finding fault within ourselves!

In the last few months, I have gotten very excited about projects that I want to do, albums I want to release.... and the problem is not that these things have yet to be created, but that they need an investment in order to be released into the world. I have three completed albums that I would release this very summer... if I had the funds to do so. Creating music and art is what I live for. It's what gives me a reason to live and allows and/or maintains my happiness. And I'm fucking great at it.... it just tears me apart to have to ask people to buy my music... even if it is for the greater good of releasing more music and keeping me from starving and sleeping under trucks (been there, done that).

I don't need an expensive car or luxury vacations or shopping sprees.... all I want to do is create music and art. I can do that from a shack in the woods with a banjo! I do go through this periodically.... questioning why I try to "reach people" with my music, when the very act of "reaching people" requires that I buy into the consumer/marketing system that I despise so very much.

I feel like a hypocrite... and I am so very sorry for that.... to everyone as well as to myself.

"October" - June 13, 2009

This week's TyLean.com Members received an mp3 of a song called "October," originally intended to be track 3 of When All Else Fails (EP). It was later replaced by "Do Nyanono." Once upon a time, I would open my performances with this creepy little a'cappella.

Between 10 and 2 Review - June 7, 2009

I have just read a review of Between 10 and 2 that - I think - is my best review EVER! As I have bitched about in the past, everyone is always fucking up the meanings of my songs and misunderstanding my music - which is okay. It's not important that everyone understands every note and word of my songs and why I do what I do.

That being said... I have never read someone describe my music so accurately!

TyLean on Facebook - June 3, 2009

Okay.... so I started a Facebook page sometime ago, but that was about the extent of my efforts. Since then, everyone has a Facebook page, and it seems to have surpassed MySpace as the fastest medium for show and event info.

Interview with Hart of the Music - May 24, 2009

I was recently in Belfast again, which made me think of an interview that I did with a Canadian radio show, Hart of the Music, which was conducted over the phone while I was living in Belfast. Unfortunately, the host of the show went to another station, and the interview never aired.

HOWEVER... I do have mp3s of the interview, which are being sent to TyLean.com Members.

"Unspoken Thing" - May 20, 2009

Over the last few years, you may have caught wind of this project called 22 Morbid and the album that I keep saying is coming out called Thus Far. I know, I know... at this point, you are probably doubting it's existence! Well, believe it or not, it DOES exist.

This week, TyLean.com membership holders received an mp3 from the mythical album: Thus Far, a demo of the track called "Unspoken Thing."

"Cookie Cutter Beauty" - May 8, 2009

For the first edition of the TyLean.com membership, I carefully selected a very special track to share called "Cookie Cutter Beauty."

"Cookie Cutter Beauty" was originally intended to be on Between 10 and 2,
but when it came time to master the album, it just didn't seem to fit
anymore. All members received a full mp3, emailed directly to them.

The Unveiling of the TyLean.com Membership - May 1, 2009

The Unveiling of the TyLean.com Membership

Over and over again, I get requests for “more TyLean,” from fans across the world. People are amazed to learn that I have 100s of compositions and songs, and yet only have two albums (13 tracks total) released. Releasing an album takes time and money, and as an independent recording artist with loads or material to share – and fans who want that material – it can be incredibly frustrating.

HOWEVER… I believe I have found the solution! Starting the 1st of May, 2009, I will be offering one-year Memberships to TyLean.com. Fans can now receive a subscription of TyLean, weekly, in their inbox.

How is this different from a newsletter or a blog post? The difference is in the attachment! Each week, I will email TyLean.com members an exclusive, unreleased track, photo, or chapter to my work-in-progress autobiography (which is revealing to say the very least). Being a member of TyLean.com will not only keep you up to date with where I am in the world and what I am up to, but also provide a special insight to how I am evolving artistically and musically.

A one-year membership to TyLean.com can be purchased through Paypal for $50. That’s less than $1/week for guaranteed, hassle-free TyLean artistry delivered to your inbox every week!

What is up. - April 14, 2009

So... I'm sure you are all curious as to what the hell is going on with me. I can't stay in the same place for longer than 5 seconds, one minute I'm working on albums, the next I'm not, I'm in England, then I'm in the US, then I'm in Northern Ireland, then I'm back in the US, then I'm in Northern Ireland again, now I'm in England, I'm auditioning for bands, I'm saying "fuck you" to the world... I can hardly keep up with myself, so I don't expect anyone else to be able to.

In short... I have been allowing my personal life to dictate my career and, perhaps for the first time ever, putting people I love and care about ahead of my music. That sounds sweet... but it all backfired miserably, and I have thus learned my lesson.

I am making a resolution to never let some silly human come between myself and music again. I am a recording artist, and if you strip that away from me, there is nothing left but the hollow shell of person with a meaningless existence.

A decision has been made. - April 7, 2009

I have such a varied pallet of musical interests that it's pretty hard to answer the question: "what type of music do you listen to?" Once upon a time, I would list bands and songs that I listen to, but since there were bands and songs in virtually every genre I started to reply with, "the best of every genre."

No more. When asked what music I listen to or what my influences are... I am going to reply, "the music that possesses my soul," because the music I listen to all have a common thread: my ability to get lost in the music.

This is what I strive for in my own writing... for the listener to get lost in the experience of the song. To experience what I have experienced.

Hmmmmm.... it's the Dead Fag's birthday. May he continue to burn in hell... not that I believe in hell.
