TyLean: Press
Haunting vocals, eerie piano and cello, morbid outlook and just the right amount of kookiness - TyLean's got all the right boxes ticked. And those boxes have earned her the tag of "a morbidly depressed, nihilistic Tori Amos." It's a mighty accolade for the young singer-songwriter to live up to but surprisingly she manages to succeed where others have failed.
Born in the Pennsylvania sticks some 26 years ago, TyLean came to the UK to study a masters degree and is now living and performing in London. Now that's what you call paying your way through art!
She's currently working on a new album called 'The Unforgivable, the Unforgettable' but before all that, her last CD 'Between 10 and 2' is about to be reissued through Danse Macabre.
TyLean - When All Else Fails
A solo artist from Pennsylvania, TyLean released this EP in 2005. From the outset is plain to hear that TyLean has a great voice. Her feminine female vocals works in tandem with her consummate musicianship. Incorporating real piano and cello which is a welcome addition and it is clear that she is a keen student of music and she certainly knows what she is doing. From the haunting and piano heavy 'Unsaid' through to the Tori Amos sounding 'Green', this is a fine release. Lyrically it's all pretty depressing stuff and won't do much to help defend the argument that goths are not all depressed individuals, but when its this good who cares! TyLean's new concept album should be out soon entitled 'Thus Far', which forms part of a project called 22 Morbid. Look out for it.
TyLean is a local recording artist who specializes in haunting melodies sung gracefully over a pretty piano. She’s recently released her debut five-song EP entitled When All Else Fails. The record is a tasty sampler of TyLean’s spacey, reverb-drenched voice. It also comes with pictures of TyLean with fangs, castles, and an overall gothic feel.
Her music is pretty, feminine, and delicate, but at the same time, dark and biting. Her melodies are long and strewn across the subtle chord changes. This creates a fabulous musical landscape and a musical environment that is all TyLean. She’s welcoming you into her world, and it’s a world that seems scary at first, but is well worth it in the end. Growl!
